Aston Villa 'join race' for Sporting Lisbon's Manuel Ugarte

Aston Villa have joined the race to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

The Express and Star claim that Unai Emery’s side are the latest club to keeping tabs on the highly-rated Uruguay international.

Ugarte has been heavily touted for a summer move to the Premier League with Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal all linked.

But the Villains are now tracking the 22-year-old as a potential signing under the guidance of Barcelona’s outgoing sporting director Mateu Alemany.

The report also claims out-of-contract Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio and Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso are under consideration.

Villa travel to Liverpool on Saturday hoping to move closer to a previously improbable Premier League top six finish.
