Aston Villa are in talks with Ruben Amorim to become their new manager following the sacking of Steven Gerard, according to The Athletic.
The 37-year-old is regarded as one of the most talented young coaches in Europe. He took over Sporting Lisbon in March 2020 and has made a huge impact with the Primeira Liga club.
The Portuguese boss led his side to their first league title in 19 years in the 2020-21 season.
Villa dismissed Gerrard after the disappointing 3-0 defeat at Fulham on Thursday, which leaves them just above the relegation zone.
The Premier League outfit have recorded two wins from 11 matches this season. This is a hugely disappointing return considering how much they have spent on new recruits.
Villa have been heavily linked with a move for Mauricio Pochettino, but the Argentine is reportedly unwilling to join the club.
Pochettino would be an excellent appointment for the Villans, with the 50-year-old having experience of managing top European clubs.
He was most recently the manager at Paris Saint-Germain, where he won the 2021-22 Ligue 1 title.
The Argentine boss also did incredibly well at Tottenham Hotspur, securing them regular Champions League football. He led them to the final in 2019, eventually losing to Liverpool.
Villa bosses are fans of Thomas Tuchel, who was recently sacked by Chelsea after failing to give them a good start. However, the German has no interest in joining the club.
