Aston Villa fans will get frustrated with poor results under Steven Gerrard this season, says journalist Dean Jones.

Gerrard failing to find a style of play for the Villans will also be a concern, according to Jones.

How have Villa done under Gerrard?

Under Gerrard, who was appointed Villa manager almost a year ago, the Midlands club have not been terrible. However, they have not done anything special either.

Last season, they finished 14th in the Premier League, while this term, they currently find themselves in 15th.

Gerrard’s men were able to beat Southampton 1-0 just before the international break, but it has been a lacklustre start to the campaign overall.

They have already lost four games and have only managed to pick up one other win, a 2-1 victory over Everton last month.

What has Jones said about Gerrard and Villa?

Jones thinks some Villa fans will have their concerns about results and how the team has been playing under Gerrard.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “I think they will get frustrated whenever results are not positive, and there has to be some concern because Gerrard has not yet found a style of play that you could identify and trust as the way for this team to progress.”

Do Villa fans need to be patient with the team and Gerrard?

Results have been far from ideal, but it is still early in the season. There also needs to be some perspective.

Villa have had some injury problems, with summer signing Diego Carlos, who joined the club in a £26m deal from Sevilla, rupturing his Achilles tendon.

Some of their top players, including Philippe Coutinho, are also yet to discover their best form.

Understandably, much was expected of Coutinho after his loan move from Barcelona became a permanent one.

The 30-year-old, who cost his former club over £140m, impressed at Villa Park last season. In 19 Premier League appearances, he scored five goals, with two of those strikes coming against Manchester City and Manchester United, and provided three assists.

This time around, however, Coutinho has been unable to make that kind of impact. Seven games into the 2022/23 campaign and he is yet to produce a single goal contribution.

The above shows that Gerrard arguably deserves a bit of leeway and Villa fans need to be patient. It is a long season ahead; there is time for the team to get better.
