Aston Villa have completed the signing of Norwich playmaker Emiliano Buendía.

Buendía joins the club for a reported record £35m fee – surpassing the amount (£30m) paid for Ollie Watkins last summer.

The deal is also a club-record sale for Norwich who sold Ben Godfrey (£25m) to Everton last summer.

According to The Athletic, the Canaries have also inserted a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the deal with Villa.

“Emiliano has just completed an outstanding season in a championship-winning Norwich side with 31 combined goals and assists and was named player of the season across the league,” manager Dean Smith told the club’s official website.

“He is equally capable as a wide attacker or as a number 10 and is a great addition to our attacking options.

“We are delighted to have made such an exciting signing so early in the summer and look forward to Emi joining up with us for a full pre-season.”

The 24-year-old was a standout performer last season, scoring 15 goals and assisting 16 in 39 appearances.
