Newcastle United set to sign Jacob Ramsey for around £40m.

So what do Aston Villa fans make of it?

Some intriguing comments below.

Aston Villa fans commenting on Jacob Ramsey set to sign for Newcastle United via their Villa Talk message board:

‘If Jacob Ramsey leaves for 40m then its good money for us.

I do find it crazy that a player needs to be sold as they ONLY have 2 years left on their contract. A player could potentially feature in 100 games in 2 seasons.

Hooray for Modern Football ! Football or Financeball these days!’

‘If Jacob Ramsey does leave I wish him well.

Will be interesting to see how he deals with Newcastle’s very direct style play considering his injury history.’

‘Not me. Wouldn’t sign a contract. What is it about so called villa fans who play for us.’

‘Tbf we don’t know what was offered. Newcastle might be offering a lot more and maybe assurances of a bigger role in the first team than he was getting at Villa. Plus Champs League football too.’

‘Looking forward to the announcement that hes signed a new deal, followed by a goal and knee slide right in front of the away fans on Sat.’

‘Isak is on £120k/w at Newcastle and they don’t want to increase it. Be funny if they gave Ramsey a bigger contract.’

‘I think they would increase it, just not the 300k+ that Isak supposedly wants.’

’12 months ago I’d be gutted if Ramsey left

Now i’m “Meh”

He’s not a starter for us. If the money can be put to better use then fine.’

‘Maybe that it’s because he’s come through the ranks, but I’d be gutted if he went.

Yes he hasn’t been at it fully the last couple of yrs, but he still has massive potential. Every coach who works with him has said this. He looks sharper atm and just think we’ll regret selling him.’

‘I like Ramsey. He plays the game in a direct and exciting way, he is great watching marauding forward on the ball and he’s got an underrated finish.

But that injury came at the worst time, he’s found himself as a good squad option and he’s not developed the other elements of his game that could have made him fantastic.

And with our needing to be cute with finances thanks to the ridiculous state of the game means a decent payday from moving him on might be a bigger deal for our development than having him stay.

But it would be sad to see him elsewhere. He’s a local lad, who’s done well, seems a good egg, and he wants to play football the way we all did down the park. He’s hard not to like.’

‘I like Ramsey a lot but have a feeling this may turn out a bit like the Targett deal where he ends up bench warming or injured at Newcastle and is swiftly forgotten here.

His injury record has become a problem and as far as FFP / PSR whatever it’s called goes, you’re probably better off getting rid of the most injury prone players, especially where you have the pure profit of a homegrown player.

That being said, it’s a huge shame he didn’t establish himself as a first team regular here. At one point he looked like the future of the club.’

‘As long as Joelinton isn’t a swap deal.’

‘I imagine they’d like to keep one of their best players who starts all the time and has a big impact!’

‘I can’t stand that horrible word removed, but we kind of need a horrible word removed or two.’

‘Story will break next few days he’ll sign a new deal with Villa

Thank you goodnight.’

‘I’ve been trying to get my head around this as I don’t want Jacob Ramsey to leave.

Taking the emotion out I decided would we be signing him if he was at another club and we had the resources PSR etc? I don’t think we would.
