Aston Villa have been unsuccessful with their appeal to The Football Association to get winger Kirsty Hanson’s three-match ban reduced.

The Midlands club provided an update on the situation via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

The 25-year-old was sent-off for catching Manchester United’s Hayley Ladd with a high boot during the second half of The Villans’ 2-1 defeat to The Red Devils at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon. Hanson made an honest attempt to get the ball but the challenge was high with her boot catching Ladd’s lower stomach.

With Hanson facing a three-match ban, Aston Villa made an appeal to The Football Association for some leniency earlier this week, however, the club have today been informed that the suspension will not be reduced. The winger will now sit out of this weekend’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Liverpool at Prenton Park before also missing the games against Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Hanson’s red card came against her former club. The Scot was contracted to Manchester United for five years prior to joining Aston Villa on a permanent basis this summer. Hanson made 90 appearances for The Red Devils in all competitions in which she scored 16 goals.
