Aston Villa are one of many clubs tipped to make a move for Christian Eriksen in the summer, according to Dean Jones.

In a recent chat with Give Me Sport, the transfer insider was quoted saying: I think Gerrard has to be interested in Eriksen.

“We’ve seen already the impact he’s had at Brentford on results and on the players around him. It’s exactly the type of catalyst that Gerrard wants for his team.”

The midfielder has rejuvenated his career since suffering a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland and recently made his international comeback with consecutive goals last month.

Eriksen is also on a run of five straight victories in the Premier League games he has started for Brentford, highlighting his impact at the club since joining on a six-month contract back in January.

Unsurprisingly, Brentford are keen to retain Eriksen’s services for another season but the 30-year-old is reportedly wanted by a host of clubs around the country.

Tottenham, Crystal Palace, Everton, Liverpool, Newcastle United, West Ham and Aston Villa have all been linked with a move for the ex-Inter man.

Villa’s interest in Eriksen could however depend on what happens with Philippe Coutinho, who has rediscovered his Midas touch while on loan with Steven Gerrard’s men.

Per The Sun, doubts have been cast over a permanent move as The Claret and Blue want Barcelona to halve their asking price of £32million due to the Brazilian’s hefty wage bill.

Gerrard gave an update on Coutinho’s long-term future at Villa Park last month when he said: It’s more complicated than people think… the option is there. If it was my money, I think you know the answer.”

With little to play for in the current campaign, Aston Villa are already looking ahead to next season and a superb summer window would help set the tone.
