Aston Villa will be engaged in contract “discussions” with both Danny Ings and Tyrone Mings at Villa Park, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Both players currently have their contracts up in 2024, but Unai Emery is believed to be keen to extend their stays at the club.

What is the latest news involving Ings and Mings?

Ings has been in fantastic form since the departure of former manager Steven Gerrard, scoring a brace on two occasions, the first of which coming in a 4-0 victory against Fulham, when Aaron Danks was the caretaker manager.

The Englishman’s future was said to be in doubt by journalist Dean Jones back in October, as he was growing “frustrated” under Gerrard, however, with the arrival of Emery in the dugout, he may be more tempted to remain at the club.

Mings has played the full 90 minutes in both Premier League games since the arrival of the Spanish manager, adding to an extended stint in the team, after a very tough start to the season for the 29-year-old.

The centre-back told the Athletic that he had found it “difficult” to accept being stripped of the club captaincy in the summer, while more recently he has had to deal with the setback of not being named in the England squad for the World Cup.

What has O’Rourke said about Ings and Mings?

O’Rourke describes the duo as “key” players for Aston Villa, and believes that the club would be very hesitant to lose them, particularly on free transfers, with time ticking away on their contracts, telling GIVEMESPORT: “I’m sure the club will be looking at the contract situations of those two players, two key first team players as well I think, so you don’t want to be losing those two players, potentially on free transfers in 2024 when their contracts expire.

“So, I’m sure discussions, internally, are going on between representatives of both players and Aston Villa.”

Do Ings and Mings merit new contracts?

Ings has really started to reignite his form in recent weeks, with two goals against Brighton & Hove Albion last time out sending his team on their way to a second league win under Emery.

The manager seems to be under no illusions about how vital the finisher is for the team, describing him as “very important” in the wake of the result, which is also illustrated by his 13 goal contributions last season, six of them assists, highlighting that there is much more to his game than just his goals.

Despite Mings’ difficult start, the 17-time England international has displayed remarkable resilience to force his way back into the team, after not being selected on the opening day away at AFC Bournemouth, following the gutting blow of losing the captaincy in the summer.

What year were the club founded?

1854 1864 1874 1884

The 6 foot 5 colossus has played every minute of the last 11 games, re-establishing himself as a key player, and the performances have normally been quality, making eight clearances and two interceptions in Emery’s first game, against Manchester United.

The duo – on a combined £200k-a-week wages – more than merit contract extensions, and the Villa hierarchy should advance discussions as quickly as possible, to avoid the risk of them being tempted by a move elsewhere, or letting their contracts run down.
