According to a report in the Sun, Aston Villa are looking to sign Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu on loan for the upcoming term. Ampadu is already a Welsh international and he is only 19. This would be a fantastic signing for Aston Villa.
Villa have been one of the busiest clubs in the summer after a number of loan players returned to their parent clubs. In addition, they also sanctioned sales for 8 players early in the window while signing the likes of El Ghazi, Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa and Bjorn Engels to name a few. Signing Ampadu would be another astute addition.
Ampadu is an extremely talented centre-back, who has developed from the prestigious Chelsea youth set-up that has been one of the best youth sides in Europe and England for the last couple of seasons.
Ampadu is a very talented footballer first, which is why he can play at centre-back and in defensive midfield.
Ampadu struggled to make an impact last season under Maurizio Sarri, who has quite a reputation for being one of the less flexible managers in the league and it didn’t help his development.
With so many of Chelsea’s loan players being called up by Frank Lampard due to the transfer ban, it will be hard to Ampadu to get much playing time.
Ampadu definitely has the quality to play for a Premier League side and it would be a shame if he doesn’t get the playing time for yet another season. Dean Smith has shown a lot of belief in youth during his short stint at Villa and will be hoping that Ampadu can produce the goods for him.
Smith would use Manchester United loanee Axel Tuanzebe and Tyrone Mings for the same purpose and Ampadu would easily be able to fill the void left by Tuanzebe. He could also sit just in front of the defence and support John McGinn and Jack Grealish, both of whom have more attacking attributes than defensive ones.

Ampadu doesn’t have to worry about his future at Chelsea because Frank Lampard is very likely to give young players a chance as he has indicated after being appointed the manager.
Ampadu will be hoping that he can impress during his time at Villa and show the promise to become a first-team player for Chelsea in the coming seasons. Meanwhile, his presence would also increase Villa’s chances of survival.
