Aston Villa have completed the signing of Norwich playmaker Emiliano Buendía.

Buendía joins the club for a reported record £35m fee – surpassing the amount (£30m) paid for Ollie Watkins last summer.

The deal is also a club-record sale for Norwich who sold Ben Godfrey (£25m) to Everton last summer.

“Aston Villa and Norwich City have reached an agreement for the transfer of Emiliano Buendía,” read an official statement.

“As Emiliano is currently in the Argentina national team’s biosecure bubble, preparing for a World Cup qualifying match with Colombia on Tuesday evening, he will undergo a medical and complete the transfer after the game.”

The 24-year-old was a standout performer last season, scoring 15 goals and assisting 16 in 39 appearances.

Arsenal were also interested in Buendía but Villa have officially won the race for his signature.
