Aston Villa have completed the impressive signing of Dutch international goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar on a three-year deal.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Villans this afternoon. The keeper will officially join Aston Villa on a free transfer when her contract at Dutch club FC Twente expires on 30 June.

Van Domselaar is one of the brightest young goalkeepers in world football and she has all of the attributes to potentially become the very best in her position in future years. The 23-year-old’s talents were highlighted at the top level when she put in a handful of exceptional performances for The Netherlands at the UEFA Women’s EURO last summer.

The keeper has been linked with a whole host of top clubs in the last 12 months as she looks to progress her career and it is Aston Villa who have won the race for her signature.

After securing Van Domselaar’s services, Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward said “Daphne is someone we’ve tracked for some time.

“We knew we had real competition from some of Europe’s biggest clubs so we’re delighted she’s chosen to continue her development with us.

“She’s a player who comes with great pedigree and potential to be one of the world’s best. We’re delighted to have her and we very much look forward to working with her.”

Van Domselaar arrives at Aston Villa having already won eight domestic trophies in her native Netherlands, including three Azerion Eredivisie Vrouwen titles. She will now be hoping to help an ambitious Aston Villa team kick on in the Barclays Women’s Super League in the coming years.
