Aston Villa transfer news – Marcus Thuram

According to BILD, Monchengladbach could be willing to let Thuram leave the club for as little as £6m this January, with the forward’s current £82k-per-week contract with the Bundesliga set to expire at the end of the season, as per Salary Sport.

One of the Frenchman’s admirers is said to be Villa manager Emery, who wanted to sign the forward for Villarreal when he was in charge of the La Liga club, as per Birmingham Live.

However, Jones has already told GiveMeSport that the West Midlands giants might be “a little way down the list” in the race to sign the Bundesliga star, depending on what clubs are interested in the son of French legend Lilian Thuram.

And the journalist has expressed the same views again, but believes that the signing of Thuram for Villa would be a “bargain” at £6m.

What has Jones said about Villa and Thuram?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “That would be a proper bargain if they could get that one done.

“I think a lot of it will depend on what other clubs show interest here because he’s being offered around to some bigger clubs than Aston Villa.”

Would Thuram be a good signing for Villa?

Despite spending a combined initial £53m on forwards Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings as per BBC Sport, the signing of Thuram for £6m could represent a bargain for Villa in January.

The attack-minded star provided an assist off the bench for France in Les Bleus’ 3-1 World Cup last 16 victory over Poland on Sunday, which adds to the 13 goals and four assists he has provided in 17 appearances for Monchengladbach this season, according to Transfermarkt.

An average Sofascore rating of 6.63 would represent a lack of playing time at the World Cup for the seven-time France international, but a rating of 7.19 for his Bundesliga form ranks him as the German side’s fourth-best performing player this season, suggesting that he could be a solid addition for Villa if he made the move to Villa Park in the new year.

Whilst Thuram’s immediate focus will be aiming to show Deschamps that he should play a significant part in France’s World Cup quarter-final with England on Saturday, a move to the Premier League could be on the cards if he continues to impress for club and country, heading into the January transfer window.
