Aston Villa boss Smith updates Barkley injury setback

Aston Villa midfielder Ross Barkley suffered a hamstring injury in defeat to Brighton on Saturday.

The on-loan Chelsea man was forced off in the early stages of Saturday's 2-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton at Villa Park.

He appeared to damage his hamstring taking a free-kick - and Smith has confirmed he will be sent for a scan on the problem.

"He felt his hamstring just two minutes into the game," he said.

"We'll have to get it scanned first to see how bad it is.

"He seems fairly hopeful he won't be too long but we'll have to wait and see after this game."
