Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has played down talk of a move for Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez.

Gerrard has already signed former Liverpool team-mate Philippe Coutinho but will not complete a rumoured deal for ex-Reds colleague Suarez.

“We're not after a centre forward in this window. That's as clear as I can be," Gerrard said on Friday.

“I know Luis extremely well. He's a world-class footballer, but we're not after adding a centre forward, whether it be Luis or anyone else."

Villa might need to sell players to balance their finances, especially if they want to seal further incomings.
