Last Tuesday, Aston Villa clinched their spot in the UEFA Champions League after Tottenham Hotspur lost to Manchester City. As a result, the English club must beef up its team for European and domestic matches while adhering to financial fair play rules.

Carlos Soler might not have his future with Paris Saint-Germain and recent rumors suggest that Aston Villa are among the clubs looking to add the Spanish player this summer.

Even though the Premier League club understand the type of roster they need to build to compete in the various competitions next season, manager Unai Emery cautioned that they must do so within their financial limits.

“We have to be intelligent,” Emery said (h/t GOAL). “We must arrange the fair play rules and through that, build a new team but more or less we are not thinking of adding or signing a lot of players. We are trying to be intelligent and how we can improve the squad.

“Of course, we are going to be very demanding in our decision, but we have to analyze deeply. Financially, being in the Champions League is better than not. But we have to manage and arrange the fair plat at the beginning, of this season. I think we can be intelligent and build.”

Soler has made 26 appearances this season across all competitions for the Spanish club, scoring one goal and registering four assists for the Parisians. Despite being a depth piece, Aston Villa and even Brighton & Hove Albion reportedly have their eyes on the player for next season.

Will either of these teams be able to land him? It will be an interesting file to follow once the summer transfer window opens up in a few weeks.
