In a recent report, The Independent stated that Aston Villa are in pole position to sign Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes. It has been claimed that the Villans could face competition in the form of West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land the English wide player this summer.

Barnes’ Decent Run Of Form In English Football

The 25-year-old has produced a few impressive displays on the left side of Leicester’s attack despite the East Midlands club’s struggles in the Premier League this season. Barnes has found the back of the net on 12 occasions and earned three assists in 39 matches for the Foxes during this campaign across all competitions.

The English sensation has been a reliable performer in the final third based on his average of 2.1 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, he has been a bit careless with his ball distribution after completing 72.9% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).

His current deal with the Foxes will expire in the summer of 2025. Hence, the Villans will have to pay a sizable fee if they want to get him on board in this off-season.

Is Barnes A Good Choice For Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery?

Barnes is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few exciting runs with the ball out on the flanks. He has got the vision to create some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third and can shoot the ball with venom and accuracy from long range. The English sensation is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also play in the number ten position if needed.

At the moment, Barnes is struggling to find his best form due to Leicester’s collective struggles in the Premier League. Still, there is no denying that he could be a key asset for the Villans next season.

Barnes is good enough to add more firepower to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery‘s attack. He might even help the West Midlands club push for a European place once again in the 2023-24 Premier League campaign.

With all things considered, Barnes would be a great choice for Emery to consider when the transfer window reopens later this year.
