In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Alex Crook claimed that Aston Villa are eyeing a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso this summer. Crooks said,

“I think Diaby will be one of the most exciting signings of the window. I fancy Villa to do quite well. Emery proved last season what a good manager he is.

“I think we haven’t seen the end of their spending yet. They spent big on Pau Torres and Diaby, but I think they’ll go again and at least bring in another couple of players.

“Ferran Torres has stated that he wants to stay at Barcelona, but if they need to free up the wage bill to bring in players, I think he’d be one that maybe could be vulnerable.

“Lo Celso has been ticking along for a while. He did well in Spain, and Emery knows him. I could see that one potentially happening. I think he’s a player that Spurs will probably be willing to let go.”

Lo Celso’s Impressive Loan Spell In Spanish Football

Lo Celso enjoyed a decent campaign at Valencia as he put in a string of impressive displays for them in the opponent’s half. The 27-year-old scored two goals and earned three assists in 29 matches for the Spanish outfit last season across all fronts.

The Argentine sensation gave a good account of himself at the centre of the park based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 1.4 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield after completing 86.5% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

What Will Lo Celso Add To Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery’s Team?

Lo Celso doesn’t mind getting stuck in with some crunching tackles to make life difficult for the opposition at the centre of the park. He can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the attacking end of the pitch.

The Argentine sensation can even make a few intelligent runs with the ball from midfield. However, he needs to find a way to improve his productivity in front of the opponent’s goal.

At 27, Lo Celso is about to enter his prime which makes an ideal choice for the Villans to consider in this off-season. We can expect him to add more quality to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery‘s first team. He might even help the West Midlands club push for a European spot in the Premier League next season.
