In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Aston Villa are eager to snap up Sevilla defender Marcos Acuna next year. It has been stated that the Villans are close to finalising a deal to bring the Argentine talent to Villa Park.

Acuna’s Solid Season In La Liga So Far

The 32-year-old is having a decent season at the Andalusian club after he produced some impressive displays on the left side of their defence. Acuna has registered one assist in nine appearances for Sevilla during this campaign across multiple competitions.

The veteran full-back has been a reliable performer on the left flank based on his average of 2.0 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 0.7 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even distributed the ball relatively well based on his pass completion rate of 82.1% in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).

His current deal at Sevilla will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, Aston Villa will have to make a decent offer if they want to seal a move for Acuna this January or next summer.

Should Aston Villa Head Coach Unai Emery Bring Acuna On Board?

Acuna is a good tackler of the ball and has got the experience to sniff out the danger when needed. He can make some important interceptions when defending inside his half. The Argentine sensation remains a good dribbler with the ball as well and can set up a few inviting chances for his teammates up top.

However, at 32, Acuna is a player on the decline. Still, there is no doubt that he is good enough to offer some serious competition for Lucas Digne at Aston Villa this season.

We can expect Acuna to bring more quality and depth to Unai Emery’s match-day squad. He would also help the Villans compete across all fronts in the short-term.

All in all, Aston Villa should consider going all out to bring Acuna on board when the transfer window reopens next year. However, there are some question marks over whether the experienced full-back can cope with the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football if the West Midlands club end up signing him in 2024.
