How it went

A hectic opening spell saw both sides snatch a goal inside fifteen minutes. Aston Villa’s Jordan Nobbs got the action underway for the hosts as the No.8 fired the ball home from outside the area. Villa’s lead lasted just two minutes however before Amalie Thestrup found an equaliser.

The Danish international found the back of the net from close range to restore the deadlock. The remainder of the opening half was littered with chances for both sides however neither team was able to go in ahead at the break.

The second half got off to a slow start with both teams looking to regain their rhythm. A 60th-minute goal from Adriana Leon put Carla Ward’s side into the lead. Capitalising on an initial deflection, Leon tapped the ball home from a close angle to put her side ahead.

Just as it seemed that the hosts would take all three points, Carrie Jones found an equaliser in the 75th minute. Smashing the ball home from almost 40 yards out, the No.23 took advantage of a failed clearance from the Villa defence.

Ultimately the tie finished two all with Bristol City snatching a vital point as they look to secure their future in the WSL. Aston Villa finished the day in eighth position having taken thirteen points from as many games.
