Aston Villa are making progress in their move for Feyenoord star Lutsharel Geertruida. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League side are currently in contact over a possible move as current Villa defender Diego Carlos looks to be heading towards the exit door. Talks are ongoing and Geertruida is a priority target for Unai Emery as he looks to strengthen in defence. Aston Villa kick off their league campaign next weekend with an away clash against West Ham.
Villa aren’t the only side interested in Lutsharel Geertruida. RB Leipzig submitted several bids for the 24-year-old last summer but Feyenoord were able to keep hold of their exciting academy product. The German giants remain keen on the Netherlands international and are aware of Aston Villa’s interest.
Geertruida was a pivotal player during the Arne Slot era at Feyenoord. During their 2022/23 title triumph he featured 30 time in the Eredivisie as they comfortably claimed top spot, conceding just 30 goals in the process. Last season he featured 47 times, with six of those appearances coming in the Champions League. Lutsharel Geertruida predominately plays as a right-back but has spent much of his time at the club playing at centre-back. With one-year remaining on his current contract, this could be an excellent pick-up for Aston Villa.
