Aston Villa attempting to snap up Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is ‘a move’ that journalist Josh Holland ‘could see’ happening this summer.

The 22-year-old is believed to be attracting interest from a handful of Premier League sides following a successful loan spell at Crystal Palace last term.

What is the latest news involving Gallagher?

Gallagher showcased his true potential throughout 2021/22, registering eight goals and five assists for the Eagles as they finished in 12th position while reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup, leading to him being dubbed a “monster”.

And Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has already outlined his intention to take a closer look at the England international and the capital clubs other loan stars during pre-season.

“They will come back for sure,” said the German tactician. “When you give them on loan you give them to get better and more experienced players back.

“I want to have them in pre-season, and we will decide in pre-season what goes on. It is heavily up to them and how they do.”

Palace chairman Steve Parish has openly admitted he would like Gallagher to return to Selhurst Park next season, while BirminghamLive have claimed that Villa ‘are aware’ of his situation.

What has Holland said about Gallagher?

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Holland said: “That’d be a move I could see.

“It probably won’t be a permanent deal, they’d have to settle for a loan move, but the logistics of it are whether (Steven) Gerrard and the Villa chiefs would want to loan a rival’s player, making him a better player and then in a year’s time be worse off without him.

“And Chelsea will be benefiting, so that’s one for Gerrard to decide, I’m sure.”

Is Gallagher a realistic target?

Speaking in a recent Q&A with Villa fans, reporter Ashley Preece provided an update on Villa’s pursuit of further midfield reinforcements with Boubacar Kamara already through the door.

Preece claimed that Villa are ‘still not finished’ bolstering their engine room, with the futures of Carney Chukwuemeka, Douglas Luiz and Morgan Sanson up in the air.

It was then stated that Villa are keeping tabs on Gallagher’s situation, with the box-to-box dynamo expected to cost in the region of £30 million should Chelsea sanction his sale this summer.

Only time will tell if the Blues are willing to part ways with their academy graduate on a permanent basis, but even signing Gallagher on loan could be an appealing prospect to Steven Gerrard.
