Brighton and Hove Albion secured a second Premier League double over Manchester United in three seasons yesterday.
It’s a sorry state of affairs when the Seagulls can rock up to Old Trafford and put three past the hosts without fans as much as batting an eye at the torrid result, given how frequent the dismal displays have become.
To make matters worse for United, their only shot on target in the entire 90-minute affair came through Bruno Fernandes’ first-half spot-kick conversion.
At full-time, Andre Onana occupied the headlines after executing another costly blunder for the visitors’ third. He dove off of his line to try and claim a low cross into the area but proceeded to parry the ball straight into the path of Georginio Rutter, who brushed off Matthijs de Ligt and slotted his effort into an open goal.

He wasn’t the only Red to be left red-faced by Brighton, either. Diogo Dalot returned to the starting XI after serving his one-game suspension against Southampton.
The defender played the full game, during which he took 73 touches and lost possession a ludicrous 17 times. Zero of his five long balls attempted were accurate, while only two of his dribble attempts and three of his nine ground duel attempts were successful.
Dalot allowed Yankuba Minteh to easily get onto his preferred left foot and dispatch a cross into Kaoru Mitoma for Brighton’s second goal, and was equally as shoddy for each of the side’s attacks.
Reacting to his showing on X/Twitter, journalist Alex Crook singled out the Portgual international as one Red whose form has faltered significantly in 2024/2025.
“Dalot playing the entire BHAFC attack on side there. Really has regressed this season,” Crooks said.
