Marco Asensio’s former agent and close friend Horacio Gaggioli ‘recommends’ the Spaniard for any Serie A team ahead of the summer transfer window, and has revealed that both Milan and Roma had been interested in signing the current Aston Villa forward before he moved to Real Madrid.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a solid start to life at Villa Park after joining on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the January transfer window. He has two goals from his first four Premier League appearance, the same tally as he managed in 12 Ligue 1 matches in the first half of the season, improving his goals-per-minute ratio by a multiple of over 4.5.

Asensio joined Aston Villa on a straight loan deal, which means that he is expected to return to the Parc des Princes in the summer.

His contract with PSG runs until the summer of 2026, which means he will be entering the final year of his contract in the summer, and could be available for a new challenge elsewhere.

Asensio: Former agent makes Serie A recommendation

Gaggioli, Asensio’s former agent, believes that Serie A would be a good fit for the 38-time Spain international.

“It’s not surprising that it’s all started in the best way for him in the Premier League,” he said in an interview with SportItalia. “He is an important player who, if played in his preferred role, can make a difference at the highest level.

“Obviously I would recommend him to any Italian team. Wherever he goes, if he plays in the position where he can perform at his best, he will always be a great player.”

Gaggioli went on to reveal that both Milan and Roma had chances to sign Asensio while he was still at Malaga, before he secured a career-defining move to Real Madrid in 2014.

“There was a time when he could have been a Milan player. Then, before going to Madrid, I met with Roma, but nothing came of it. We’re talking about 2014.”
