AS Roma begin their Serie A campaign with a home fixture against Bologna at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.
The Giallorossi welcome the Rossoblu to Rome for their opening match of the 2025/26 season under new manager Gian Piero Gasperini. This could be the first competitive appearances for Roma’s summer signings, including Leon Bailey, who completed his loan move from Aston Villa with an option to buy.
Gasperini’s side endured a mixed pre-season but will be eager to start the new campaign on a positive note. Roma take on Bologna in what promises to be an intriguing encounter between two sides with big ambitions.
Leon Bailey could make his debut for Roma after joining on loan from Aston Villa for a €3 million loan fee, with an option to buy for €22 million. The Jamaican winger arrived in Rome this week and underwent his medical examination, providing Gasperini with additional attacking options following his struggles to secure other targets.
Evan Ferguson is available after his loan move from Brighton & Hove Albion. The Irish striker has been adapting well to Roma’s system during pre-season and could feature prominently in the opening fixture.
Lorenzo Pellegrini faces a race against time to be fit for the opener, with the midfielder dealing with a hamstring injury that could sideline him until early September. Roma will also be without several defensive options as they continue to navigate squad limitations.
Artem Dovbyk remains a doubt due to thigh problems, while Gasperini has been vocal about the club’s financial constraints limiting transfer activity.
Roma predicted XI: Svilar; Hermoso, Mancini, Ndicka; Wesley, Kone, El Aynaoui, Angelino; Dybala, Soule; Ferguson.
