AS Roma have opened talks with Manchester United regarding a potential summer move for Eric Bailly, reports Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

Jose Mourinho has already raided the Red Devils for Nemanja Matic and now set his sights on Bailly, the player he recruited during his managerial stint at Old Trafford.

The 28-year-old moved from Villarreal to Old Trafford in 2016 but has since failed to make a significant impact.

His playing time has significantly reduced over the last few seasons after falling down the pecking order behind the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane.

Furthermore, Lisandro Martinez’s arrival has tightened the situation of Bailly as the Argentine defender will be integral to Erik ten Hag’s plans heading forward.

The Red Devils are said to be contemplating whether to let the Ivorian international leave on loan or a permanent transfer.

Elsewhere, Giallorossi have been one of the busiest sides in the transfer window, signing the likes of Matic, Zeki Celik, Mile Svilar and most recently, Paulo Dybala.

Defensive reinforcements are also a priority, with the Portuguese manager looking to reunite with Bailly at Stadio Olimpico.

Fellow Serie A rivals AC Milan have also been linked with Bailly in recent weeks, but Roma now appear to be in pole position.

In addition, the Italian capital club are keeping tabs on French centre-back Dan-Axel Zagadou, who is currently a free agent after running out his contract with Borussia Dortmund.
