Vanderson (22) was a surprise absentee from the team sheet during AS Monaco’s Côte d’Azur derby victory over OGC Nice on Sunday. The Brazilian is now set for a short spell on the sidelines, according to his manager.

Brazil international Vanderson is a regular under Adi Hütter, featuring 17 times in all competitions this season, that despite suffering a knee injury in October that ruled him out for five games. He had been expected to start at the Allianz Riviera on Sunday, however, ultimately, he was left out of the squad entirely.

Post-match, Hütter explained Vanderson’s absence, stating that he had suffered an injury to his psoas, just as his teammate Krépin Diatta did earlier in the week. Whilst Hütter couldn’t provide a specific return date, the Austrian believes that Vanderson will be unavailable for the next two/ three weeks. “It’s too early to say exactly how long [he will be out],” said Hütter in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News.

The return of Wilfried Singo (23) from AFCON duty is therefore timely. The former Torino full-back returns as an African champion and will likely fill in for Vanderson over the next fortnight.
