AS Monaco striker Breel Embolo (26) has this week found himself in front of a Basel court in Switzerland fining him for threats made in May 2018, according to L’Équipe.

Playing for Schalke at the time, the Swiss striker threatened a man in Basel with violence, telling him that he “owns all of Basel” and that he will “finish him off”, before telling another man that he would “have him beaten”. While the defence argues that some of the floury language used in the altercation are common on football pitches, Embolo pleaded guilty on 21st June.

The court has decided the verdict would be a suspended sentence of 45 days daily rates of 3,000 Swiss Francs, in accordance with his high salary at Monaco. This brings the total to 135,000 francs.

Meanwhile, the person present with Embolo, who broke the nose of one of the victims, has been charged with a suspended sentence of 10 months in prison, as well as 25 days daily rates of 40 Swiss Francs.
