Facing Torino for the second of two matches against the Piedmontese team, the Rouge et Blanc were able to return the favor to win again 3-1 and thus string together a sixth match without defeat (5 wins and 1 draw).
It’s job done for AS Monaco. In the second of two matches against Torino, the Rouge et Blanc maintained their strong momentum to secure a second victory this Thursday. It was their fifth victory of preseason, one achieved under the watchful eye of President Dmitry Rybolovlev, present at the Performance Center.
Balo puts Monaco “ahead”
For this second game, Adi Hütter made a complete rotation. From the start, the Monegasques took control of the game and the lead as first Breel Embolo hit the post on a corner (0-0, 12′). Ten minutes later, his strike partner Folarin Balogun had more success, as header from Magassa‘s pass found the back of the net (1-0, 22’).
I think it was a good test today and we managed to pass it. I felt that we were united as a team, we were able to keep the ball. The matches are coming thick and fast and the group is gaining momentum, ahead of the two big matches against Ajax and Inter Milan.
Christian MawissaHis opinion of the match
The American striker scored his first goal this season for the Rouge et Blanc to cement Monaco’s dominance. The Principality’s players were indeed the sharpest and managed to double the lead through Kassoum Ouattara, who took advantage of a misunderstanding in the Piedmontese defense (2-0, 42′).
The game resumes
Two points behind at halftime, the Granata returned from the locker room with much better intentions, and Casadei reduced the deficit (2-1, 47th minute). The Italian team then made numerous substitutions and attempted to level the scoreboard.
These two games against Torino were a good test for us. Today was a bit tough at the start in the duels, because modern football demands intensity, but I think we deserved to win because we were the better team on the pitch. I'm happy with our performance, and to be able to count on a lot of players from the Club's youth system who deserve to get playing time.
It would be a dashed hope, as the club from the Rock regained a comfortable lead after the hour mark. After a perfectly recovered ball from Christian Mawissa, the central defender charged forward and finished with a beautiful left-footed shot from the edge of the box (3-1, 68th minute). In the final moments of the match, Yann Lienard made his mark and won a duel against Vlasic (3-1, 85th minute).
My goal? The coach told me to press for the ball in recovery and go for it, I leaned on Balo' (Folarin Balogun) and I shot, it was instinctive! He really encourages me to make runs forward like that. I was happy and everyone congratulated me!
Christian MawissaOn his goal
Building on their win yesterday, the Rouge et Blanc on wby the same scoreline and thus secured a second victory in this pair of matches. It was an excellent way to prepare for the team’s trip to the Johan Cruyff ArenA this Sunday (kick-off 2 p.m.), to face Ajax Amsterdam, the recent Eredivisie runner-up. Good luck guys!! 🇲🇨 💪
