AS Monaco have stepped up their search for attacking reinforcements this January. Folarin Balogun underwent shoulder surgery in December and is expected to miss several months’ worth of action. As a result, Monaco have been forced to dip into the market.
The Principality club have prioritised a loan move, however, with opportunities limited, they may be forced into making a permanent transfer. Sturm Graz’s Mika Biereth (21) has emerged as the priority target, Fabrizio Romano understands, with Monaco already agreeing personal terms with the striker, who came through the ranks at Arsenal.
Biereth was only signed from Arsenal on a permanent deal in the summer for nearly €5m. Since making the move, he has netted 14 goals in 25 games for the Austrian side. The striker, who also had a loan spell with Motherwell, is keen to join Les Monégasques, who must nonetheless come to an agreement with their Austrian counterparts.
