Interesting timing from Carlo Ancelotti to finally acknowledge his Coach of the Year award ...

Rodri's victory speech also tips Lamine Yamal to follow in his footsteps with the award "soon"

Here's the moment Rodri found out

There was a few shouts before Weah made the announcement but the rumours were true - Rodri is officially the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner!

And the winner is...

We've had at least one surprise this evening as Weah lets slip that he's a Tottenham fan at heart and puts Harry Kane and Garth Crooks among his favourite players.

The 1995 Ballon d'Or winner and former Liberia president George Weah is set to present the main award imminently

Well this was... different

We're just moments away from finding out the men's Ballon d'Or winner and whether all the day's earlier drama was actually true.

Aitana sharing the podium with her Barcelona teammates Caroline Graham Hansen and Salma Paralluelo also confirmed to be in the top three placings.

She's done it again! Aitana Bonmatí has been named the women's Ballon d'Or winner for a second year running.

Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti has been awarded the men's Coach of the Year and boos actually ring out in the theatre. Drogba says he's 'disappointed' not seeing his former coach on stage.

Former Chelsea and current USWNT coach Emma Hayes is named the first women's Coach of the Year. She couldn't attend the ceremony but sent in a video message.

I'm very proud. My family are very proud to be in this position. I want to say a big congratulations to all the nominees - all of them are coaches I respect hugely. I'm a little bit embarrassed because I'm in a team game.

Hristo Stoichkov and Jordi Cruyff are currently on stage to present the Coach of the Year award

We're officially into the top five and it's Manchester City's machine who takes the first spot

And just missing out on the final five ...

We're flying through the men's nominations too with a Serie A winner first up

We're officially into the top five for the women's Ballon d'Or with the first nominee

And just missing out on the top five

We're just two nominees away from the final five of the women's award now and here's the first

A modest speech from Martínez as he accepts his award on stage.

I don't consider myself as the best goalkeeper in the world, I see many great goalkeepers for week in week out. I just prefer to win collective trophies with my team and national team and to improve as a goalkeeper.

Here's just some of the names that Martínez had to fight off to retain his crown

It had to be him, didn't it? Lautaro hands over the Yashin Trophy to his Argentina teammate Emi Martínez, who claims the award back-to-back for the first time in its history.

But first, the Yashin Trophy is set to be presented by Inter's Lautaro Martínez

We're now at the business end with both the men's and women's Ballon d'Or being unpacked from their luxury cases

The England captain's speech is short and sweet before a highlights reel of his and Mbappé's goals is played.

This award set to be shared by two players who scored 52 goals last season in all competitions.

An absentee Kylian Mbappé and fittingly Bayern's Harry Kane named as the joint winners.

Rummenigge staying on stage to present an award in honour of another late former colleague Gerd Müller.

A touching moment on stage with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge paying tribute to Franz Beckenbauer alongside his late Bayern Munich teammate's wife Heidi and son Joel:

He was something special. Popular with the people, a great player but popular off the pitch as well. He was a very good example for everybody how to treat people.

Well, it was definitely awkward. Real Madrid were confirmed as men's Club of the Year and given a passing reference from the award's presenter Didier Drogba with his co-host Sandy Heribert adding "Congratulations to them".

Now it's time for the men's Club of the Year and it could be about to get awkward

Yamal seeing off competition from some shimmering stars to claim his first major award.

The first award of the night is up with the Kopa Trophy and it's an early win for Barcelona.

The roll call in full

All the nominees for the men's and women's awards are appearing on stage now. Well, the ones who have turned up at least.

We are officially underway at the Théâtre du Châtelet

Meanwhile Real Madrid are doing the social media equivalent of saying they're washing their hair tonight

The wait is almost over

It wouldn't be a football night in Paris without some of the locals rocking up.

The stars are out in force tonight and there's even one of the Hollywood variety in attendance

At least one of the contenders for the main prize has arrived

It seems not everyone believes Rodri will be crowned the winner tonight

Some familiar faces are representing Inter this evening, too

Barcelona is officially in the house

We're going to have a new winner this evening. Who will join this list of legends?

We're all with Toni Kroos on this one, right?

There are legends everywhere you look in the French capital this evening ...

Here's another man who hasn't boycotted the ceremony in Paris ...

Away from the Ballon d'Or there's been a huge exclusive from the Athletic, who say that Ruben Amorim is expected to become Manchester United's new head coach ...

Mats Hummels is in Paris this evening and has been speaking about making the top 30 ...

Here's a rundown of the names from 20 to 11 ....

The crowd in Paris is building nicely with players (Vini and Bellingham aside) ready to walk the red carpet ...

Just missing out on the top 10 is England and Manchester City midfielder, Phil Foden ...

We're nearing the top 10 but first in 12th place is Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz ...

Wolves' Mario Lemina has had his say on the Vini controversy ...

Dani Olmo was one of the stars of EURO 2024 and is now in 13th place for this year's Ballon d'Or ...

Up next is Ademola Lookman, in 14th place ...

In 15th place is Spain and Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams. What a brilliant year he's had ..

This seems to be as close to confirmation that a Madrid delegation will definitely not be turning up tonight.

If they're unhappy in Madrid with Vinícius supposedly being snubbed for the Ballon d'Or, imagine how Rio Ferdinand feels this evening. He really thought it was a done deal after last season's Champions League final.

Cryptic...

Back to the rankings and a second Leverkusen player gets his dues

It sounds like either Madrid *may* have made a miscalculation in refusing to turn up to the Théâtre du Châtelet. Expect this one to run and run for a good few hours

Another Real Madrid man coming in at 17

A safe pair of hands in 18th for Aston Villa and Argentina

Meanwhile it's officially starting to get awkward with Madrid's alleged snub. You have to wonder how it'll be handled in Paris

Rodri's club teammate is Manchester City's first inclusion on the list as Rúben Dias comes in at 23.

Away from the rankings, the case for Rodri's potential victory is looking pretty comprehensive.

Sticking with the Premier League for 24th as Arsenal's defensive rock joins the list.

Chelsea's 'ice-cold' talisman earns a spot in 25th after his breakthrough campaign.

Things could potentially get awkward with Real Madrid's supposed no-show as they are still set to claim at least one of the main awards

Another midfielder joins the ranking with Arsenal and England's Declan Rice coming in at 26th.

PSG have a few candidates in this year's running and their first has been announced in midfielder Vitinha.

Álex Grimaldo had an incredible 2024 as part of Bayer Leverkusen's first Bundesliga title triumph alongside Spain's successful EURO 2024 squad and earns a deserved 28th place in the long list.

And there's an early tie in the men's award with current Roma teammates Artem Dovbyk and Mats Hummels jointly ranked in 29th place

We're officially underway in the rankings with the women's award throwing up some outside contenders.

It's time to get into the swing of things with the first names in the Ballon d'Or list coming up very shortly.

The plot thickens over Rodri supposedly being named as the Ballon d'Or winner. Organisers France Football are adamant that their identity is still shrouded in secrecy.

It's been a rough few days for Los Blancos after they suffered a 4-0 humbling to Barcelona in El Clásico on Saturday night. The current LaLiga leaders, meanwhile, are winging their way to Paris with Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo in the running for the men's award while six members of the women's side are hoping to lay claim to the Féminin crown including reigning holder Aitana Bonmatí.

We're kicking things off with a spot of controversy amid reports that Real Madrid will not be sending a delegation to the French capital this evening with Rodri expected to be named winner the main award instead of Vinícius Júnior. An interesting development if true and one which has clearly caused a stir at the Santiago Bernabéu.
