Flamengo’s unbeaten league run continued following a 4-1 win over Atlético Goianiense on Saturday.
Scorers: Lázaro 22′, Marinho 23′, Vidal 32′ (P), Hugo 45+4′; Rato 82′
Flamengo managed to come out on top and make it four wins in a row in the league after a dominant performance at home.
Some quick thinking in the opening 45 minutes saw the hosts make things 2-0 after Lázaro and Marinho scored within a minute of one another.
And to make the first half even better, new signing Arturo Vidal scored his first for the club from the penalty spot before Victor Hugo added a fourth.
Things slowed down drastically for the hosts coming out into the second half and they could not add to their tally despite 15 shots compared to five for the visitors.
But that did not mean things were not lively during the second 45 minutes.
Wellington Rato wriggled away from two defenders and erased any clean sheet hopes for Flamengo before substitute Luiz Fernando was shown red on the bench after an altercation with the referee.
But in the end, Flamengo’s performance in the first half was enough to come out on top and they sit fourth in the table.
