Teenage sensation Arthur Vermeeren scored his first goal for Antwerp this weekend as the Great Old came back from2-0 down to beat Club Brugge 3-2. Clinton Mata and Hans Vanaken had, with two assists from Noa Lang, put the defending champions 2-0 up within 25 minutes.
Vincent Janssen brought Antwerp back into the game with 36 minutes gone, but Antwerp could not force an equaliser before half-time. It took the home side 86 minutes until substitute Gyrano Kerk grabbed the sides second to make it 2-2. With 96 minutes on the clock, 18-year-old Vermeeren converted from a corner to complete the comeback and lift the roof off of the Bosuilstadion.
With Union going onto beat Genk a few hours later, Antwerp’s win means they remain a point clear at the top of play-off one. They will now travel to Brugge next weekend to face Club again, before a huge clash with Union in Antwerp on the 28th of May. Should both sides win their next games, Antwerp could seal their first title in decades with a win over the side from Brussels.
