Mikel Arteta is not ruling out further signings after Ebere Eze’s expected move to the Emirates Stadium.

Eze looks set to complete his move to Arsenal from Crystal Palace having said his goodbyes on Thursday night.

Arteta, however, while not commenting on Eze specifically, says any signing that arrives is not in response to an injury suffered by Kai Havertz.

“We were very active trying to look at the possibilities that could come and we’re not reacting to anything,” he said.

“We’ve been very prepared in understanding what we could do and we have decided this is the moment to do it.”

On whether there could yet be more signings to follow, Arteta said: “I don’t know because to complete the squad we have to see the ins and outs. There’s still a long time in the window.”

The Gunners boss has already been delighted with the ambition the club have shown this summer, however.

“We are showing the ambition that we are here to win major trophies, to keep evolving and improving every single year and that’s going to come with demands and those demands are clear, what our competitors are doing and where the league is going and we want to be in front, not just chasing or behind,” he said.

“We just want to be in front of it and every decision that we make in every area of the club is to try and achieve that.

“For me it’s motivation. How can we be better? How can we continue to evolve to win more football matches by bigger margins? How can we bring the people that we have closer to us and more connected.

“The players that we already have are incredible, the ones we already signed are players that are going to connect with our people and make them proud and excited.”

Leandro Trossard, meanwhile, is set to stay at the club and sign a new deal having been linked with a move away this summer.

“I’m really, really happy with Leo and that situation has been resolved in a really great way and I think he deserves recognition and we’re really happy to have him,” Arteta said.

“Good players always have options to go. Leo was very clear from the beginning that he wanted to go here and the club was very clear it wanted him here, I was very clear I wanted him here so at the end it’s a good outcome.”
