Arteta ‘happy overall’ as his Arsenal managerial debut ends in a draw | OneFootball

Mikel Arteta’s managerial career got underway with a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth, and despite not picking up all three points, he insisted he was ‘happy overall’.

The Spaniard was appointed as Arsenal manager last Friday, though sat in the stands for Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Everton, finally taking charge of first-team affairs this week.

After spending three-and-a-bit years working under Pep Guardiola at Man City, Arteta’s first game in charge got underway with his side falling behind to a 35th minute Dan Gosling goal.

However, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would level the scores 18 minutes into the second-half with his 12th Premier League goal of the season to earn the Gunners a point, and speaking afterwards, Arteta admitted he was ‘happy overall’ with what he saw.

“I am pleased with a lot of things I have seen today and a lot of things we practised that happened today. I am not happy we have not won the game but happy overall,” Arteta told Amazon.

“It’s part of the process to learn when it’s time and when it’s not. In terms of attitude, desire and commitment it was better than I expected. They are not used to playing at this rhythm.

“I am still learning about the players, about the priorities to make them more secure when they jump on to the pitch. My only aim now is to find solutions, to attack better, defend better, I don’t look at the games. The urgency, the impact, needs to be now.”
