Mikel Arteta has confirmed Arsenal are keen to keep Dani Ceballos at the club  beyond this season.

On loan from Real Madrid, the midfielder has excelled since Arteta took charge and the Arsenal boss is clearly keen to keep him around.

“That’s a conversation that we are having with the club, to see what we can do in the future with him,” Arteta told reporters in a pre-match press conference on Friday.

“I’m really, really happy with the progress and how much he’s improving and giving to the club.

“I always give the example that he’s a loan player but when you see his celebrations for every goal, the way he trains every day, how much he cares, he’s fighting, he’s top. I’m really happy with him.”

Ceballos isn’t the only player Arteta would like to see at the club next summer and the 38-year-old has spoken candidly about the club’s ambitions in recent days.

After the 2-1 defeat of Liverpool on Wednesday, the Arsenal head coach stressed the need for new signings if he is going to make a success of his time at the Emirates Stadium.

However, he was keen to quash any suggestions of backroom unrest on Friday.

Asked about his relationship with the Kroenkes, Arteta insisted everyone at Arsenal is on the same page.

“I speak with them and I have a really, really good and open relationship, that’s why when you mention that I am surprised because I don’t need to do that,” the Arsenal boss said.

“I can make a phone call and speak to them and they have been very, very supportive from the first day that I joined the club and they were very much participating in the decision to bring me back here and the same with Raul and Vinai and Edu. There are no gaps or friction or anything there.”

No friction is one thing, but whether or not he gets the backing he wants in the summer remains to be seen.
