Arsene Wenger could finally be set for a return to football over a year after he announced he was leaving Arsenal with the Mail on Sunday reporting he could be set to join his old friend Gerard Houllier at Lyon as their general manager however Telefoot in France report he declined their offer.

Arsene Wenger has been linked with a host of jobs since it was announced he would be leaving Arsenal but the Frenchman, who is now 69, opted to take a year off to relax after what was a stressful two decades in charge of Arsenal.

Wenger has always maintained he would find it hard to retire, having no outside interests to distract him so it has been a case of ‘when’ not ‘if’ he would return to the frontlines.

The Mail on Sunday writes, “Olympique Lyon want him to take over as general manager. Coach Bruno Genesio has already said he will leave at the end of the season.

“Lyon want Wenger to have a significant say in the appointment of the new coach and monitor recruitment at the club. Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier is at Lyon in a part-time advisory role.”

As you can see from the report, it is all speculation. ‘Lyon want’ and ‘PSG are also keen’. So, it was unsurprising when Jeremy Smith tweeted,
