Arsène Wenger is close to replacing Gennaro Gattuso at AC Milan, report France Football.

Wenger has been out of work since the end of last season, when he left Arsenal after 22 years in charge.

The Frenchman has, though, insisted he will not retire and is eyeing a return to management.

Milan are currently fourth in Serie A and have won five of their last six league games after a slow start to the season.

However, Gattuso’s job remains in a precarious position after the club’s slow start to the campaign.

“I believe I will start again on 1 January,” Wenger recently said in an interview with SportBILD.

“I don’t know yet. I am well rested and ready to work again.”

Milan have recently appointed Ivan Gazidis, who previously worked closely with Wenger as Arsenal’s chief executive.

According to the report, Wenger would also work closely with Leonardo, the club’s sporting director.

Milan’s next Serie A game is against Juventus on Sunday.
