Arsenal's match-day squad is so much stronger after January transfer window | OneFootball

Following several years clearing out the deadwood at Arsenal, Mikel Arteta has built one of the strongest squads in the Premier League following his latest additions during the January transfer window.

After careful squad planning, Arteta and Arsenal fans now have a squad they can be proud of with the Gunners top of the Premier League and looking to win the club’s first league title since 2004.

We have seen other Premier League clubs such as Chelsea in the latest transfer window go all-out for their targets, including two that were originally on Arsenal's radar, so Graham Potter will be delighted with the backing he has received.

This busy month has led to them breaking the British record for a transfer fee after splashing out a rumoured £106 million on Enzo Fernandez, while spending in total around £300 million in January alone, with other additions such as Mykhailo Mudryk, Malo Gusto, Noni Madueke, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofan all being added to bolster the Chelsea squad.

What did Arsenal do in the January transfer window?

Arsenal, on the other hand, have resulted in bringing just three signings in January to help them push them over the line to win the Premier League title.

The additions of Jakub Kiwior from Spezia, Jorginho from Chelsea and an in-form Leandro Trossard from Brighton brought Arsenal’s January spending to potentially £60 million.

Despite not being able to land Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, as well as Mudryk, Arsenal will be happy to bring in a proven midfielder like Jorginho for a cut-price deal as a short-term deal until they go back in for Caicedo in the summer or switch their attentions elsewhere. Declan Rice, perhaps.

Jorginho brings excellent cover for Thomas Partey, who is arguably one of the best defensive midfielders in the world at the moment and a key reason to Arsenal's current successful season, while also being able to cover a revitalised Granit Xhaka.

After bringing in Brighton’s joint top-scorer in the Premier League this season with seven goals, Arteta will be more than pleased to have Trossard as this disposal, especially for just £21 million.

Attacking options now include Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Eddie Nketiah and now Trossard.

The final signing of the January transfer window was Polish centre-back Jakub Kiwior from Italian outfit Spezia.

If truth is to be told, not many Arsenal fans would have heard about the Poland international prior to his move to north London, but the same could be said about other defenders Arsenal have signed such as William Saliba’s move from Saint-Étienne in 2019, who has gone on to be one of the Arsenal's best performers this season.

A saying that Arsenal fans may have to stick with is “trust the process” especially with the signing of Jakub Kiwior. With the Gunners five points clear at the top of the Premier League, the north London side will be hoping the process is nearly complete.
