Arsenal star Leah Williamson stayed true to her word and gave her opponent her shirt after a wholesome exchange on Twitter.
The Gunners took on Leeds in the Women’s FA Cup fourth round, thrashing the fourth-tier team 9-0 at Meadow Park.
Many of the Leeds players, who have full-time jobs outside of football, were playing against their heroes.
Striker Amy Woodruff couldn’t contain her excitement after finding out that her side had drawn Arsenal earlier this month, immediately tweeting Williamson to ask if she could have her shirt at the final whistle.
“Can we swap?” Williamson replied with a smiling emoji. “See you on the 29th.”
Despite being substituted off at half-time, Williamson immediately found Woodruff at full-time and handed over her shirt.
The pair then spoke for a while, before taking a picture with the shirt in question.
It’s not yet known if Woodruff gave Williamson her own shirt, with the England captain overheard telling the Leeds star to wait until they got to the changing rooms before returning the favour.
It would have presumably been a memorable moment for Woodruff, who had tweeted her admiration for Williamson after their Twitter exchange.
“This is a madness, no wonder she’s one of the biggest inspirations to women’s football,” she wrote about the Euro 2022 winner.
Arsenal progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup with their victory against Leeds, which saw goals from new signings Victoria Pelova and Kathrine Kühl.
There were eight different goalscorers for the Gunners in total, including Caitlin Foord, Kim Little, Lina Hurtig, Jen Beattie, Stina Blackstenius and Michelle Agyemang.
