Arsenal’s Europa League game with Vorskla Poltava will now take place 200 miles away in Kiev due to “security concerns”.
On Sunday, three Ukrainian vessels were captured by Russian forces off the coast of Crimea.
Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko has described the move as an “act of aggression” and subsequently proposed a 30-day period of martial law in the country, which would give the military control over normal civilian functions of government.
UEFA had confirmed that this turn of events would not affect Thursday night’s game in Poltava but on Tuesday, a decision was made to move the game for the safety of the two clubs and their supporters.
The match will now take place at Kiev’s Olimpiyskiy Stadium instead and UEFA say they will continue to monitor the situation in Ukraine before deciding whether to relocate any other matches.
