The Arsenal u18s returned to winning ways by thrashing Chelsea on Saturday, with Amario Cozier-Duberry scoring a free-kick.

Dan Micciche’s Arsenal u18 side haven’t been on the best run of results recently, with only a couple of wins from early October until this weekend.

Coming up against a local rival and a tough opponent in Chelsea, there were no guarantees the team would be able to turn that run around on Saturday.

The pre-match suspense only built as the game was postponed by an hour. When it finally got underway, Arsenal were the team to take an early advantage.

Midway through the first half, Khayon Edwards headed home an Elian Quesada-Thorn cross for 1-0, his 18th goal of the season in all competitions.

Just over 10 minutes later, Charles Sagoe Jr converted James Sweet’s through ball to double the lead. Sweet is the top playmaker in the academy so far this season, leading the u18/21/23s in assists with eight.

After the break, Chelsea made a couple of changes on the hour mark to try and get back into the game. Arsenal responded with a switch of their own, bringing on debutant Lino Sousa for Quesada-Thorn.

With 15 minutes to go, Bradley Ibrahim bundled home a third goal, and his first of the season. He managed to poke the ball in after Chelsea failed to clear a corner.

The game was all but over, yet Arsenal still had time to rub some salt in the wounds as Amario Cozier-Duberry curled in a free-kick from 25 yards.

With Remy Mitchell making four saves to keep a clean sheet at the other end, it finished 4-0. Add that to the recent 4-1 win by the u21s, and Arsenal have certainly had the beating of the Chelsea academy in 2022 so far.
