Arsenal duo Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly both started for the England u17s against Denmark this week, with Lewis-Skelly playing deep in midfield whilst Nwaneri played a more advanced role.
The u17s are competing in the UEFA u17 Euro elite qualifying round group, playing all three group fixtures over the March break.
The group winners and the seven best runners-up (from the eight groups) will earn a spot in the final tournament.
To avoid the risk of being the eighth-best runner-up and missing out on the tournament, England will want to ensure qualification by winning their group. That started with Wednesday’s Denmark clash.
Nwaneri was on top form, scoring the opening goal of the game in the ninth minute, before adding another just before the half-hour mark.
After the half-time break, the Arsenal youngster then set up Manchester City’s Justin Oboavwoduo for the third goal of the game.
With the result wrapped up, Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly both came off for a rest around the hour mark.
Denmark subsequently pulled one goal back in the 73rd minute, but it was only a consolation.
It’s great to see the Arsenal contingent impressing with the England u17s, and they’ll be looking to feature in the final tournament this summer.
The tournament kicks off in Hungary on May 17th, which is after the end of the club academy season.
