Simon Collings reports that Arsenal have now wrapped up a deal to sign Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson, and there’s even an outside chance the player features against Leicester City on Wednesday.

Collings adds that Rúnarsson arrived at Arsenal for a medical at the back end of last week. Charles Watts reported on Friday that the goalkeeper was at London Colney to finalise his move and meet his teammates.

Ahead of the West Ham game, Mikel Arteta told the media Arsenal should be able to announce a new signing shortly, believed to be Rúnarsson. It looks like it’s only a matter of time now.

Initially, it looked like Arsenal were trying to bring Rúnarsson in to make the squad for that West Ham fixture. But in the end, it came too soon, and the goalkeeper had to wait a few more days.

Goalkeeper coach Inaki Cana played a big role in the signing, having worked with Rúnarsson at FC Nordsjælland. Arteta admitted he’s sharing responsibility for goalkeeper signings with the coach.

I’d imagine there aren’t enough training sessions between now and Leicester to get Rúnarsson ready for a start, but maybe we’ll see him on the bench. Either way, it looks like they’ve sorted this transfer and we can move onto the next.
