Arsenal have Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves on their radar, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to the Emirates in the past, and it appears that the north London club still retain an interest in him.

What is the latest news involving Neves?

The Daily Mirror recently reported that Barcelona are interested in signing Neves next summer.

However, according to the newspaper, there is a belief at the Spotify Camp Nou that Arsenal are also keen on the Portuguese star.

Regarding how much Neves could cost if he does decide to leave Molineux in the new year, the same outlet claims that Wolves value him at around £50m.

As per The Athletic, Arsenal wanted to sign Neves back in 2021, so he is a player who clearly has admirers in north London.

What has Jones said about Neves and Arsenal?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Arsenal are indeed keeping an eye on Neves.

Discussing midfielders manager Mikel Arteta could move for in January, the journalist said: "Neves, we've spoken about him for a while. He's on the radar, but a lot is going to be decided by what happens next at Wolves and who comes in. So I guess we have to wait and see."

Which midfielder will Arsenal sign in January?

It is clear that Arsenal do like Neves, but it is hard to imagine Wolves selling one of their best players in the middle of the season, especially if they still find themselves in the relegation zone come January.

Considering that, Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz comes across as a much more realistic target for the Gunners.

He was someone they obviously tried to buy in the last transfer window, with Sky Sports claiming that Arsenal had three bids for him turned down on deadline day.

Villa may be willing to play ball in January, though, with the Brazil international's contract up next summer, so signing him looks like a much easier task than recruiting Neves.

In terms of what Luiz would bring to the Emirates, he is a midfielder with a lot of energy but also good on the ball.

"He’s a top, top midfielder. Somebody that releases the ball with quality and that has got a really good engine," Spanish football expert Guillem Balague said (via BirminghamLive) before Luiz's move to Villa back in 2019.

hailing him as a "world-class" player, Luiz would not be a bad alternative if they cannot sign the Portugal international.
