Arsenal winger George Lewis is happy proving his doubters wrong back home in Norway.
Lewis stunned Norwegian football after winning a contract with the Gunners last season following successful trials.
In 2018, he played three matches in the Obosligaen for Tromsdalen. The following year, there were two games for Fram Larvik at level three in Norwegian football. But having spent a fortnight training with the Gunners earlier this year, Arsenal took on the fleet-footed attacker.
Lewis was born in Kigali, Rwanda, but began his footballing career playing in the youth set-up at Tromso IL, before moving to Tromsdalen where he tasted senior football for the first time. But now he is on the books of Arsenal in the Premier League.
And with Arsenal, Lewis has established himself as a regular starter with the U23s this season under coach Steve Bould.
Lewis told VG: "People get to think what they want. For me, it's about refuting. I have done this since I was a little boy and this is something my parents taught me.
"Where I come from, there are many who have not believed in me. That's why it's great to be here now, and it's always special to wear an Arsenal kit to play football matches.
"Of course I was surprised when I first heard about the interest, I think everyone had been. It has been a big leap in terms of level, but I feel I have handled it well. It was a challenge that I felt ready to take on."
Lewis, 20, has a deal with the Gunners to 2022, which also includes a 12 month option.
