‘Arsenal will rise again’ says Eidevall after FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea | OneFootball

Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall says that the club will bounce back from their 3-0 Vitality Women’s FA Cup defeat to Chelsea just like they have from previous setbacks over the years.

The Gunners were well-beaten by The Blues at the national stadium, the North Londoners never recovered from Fran Kirby’s 3rd-minute goal.

When speaking in the post-match press conference, Eidevall said that his side will bounce back from this afternoon’s defeat and they will come back stronger.

“We can play so much better than we did today,” Eidevall said when speaking in the post-match press conference. “The players gave their all on the pitch but the quality as a team just wasn’t there.

“We need to believe as a group and we all had family, friends and loved ones who were here today supporting us. We have been through difficult times through COVID without spectators and without them (friends and family) being here to support us. We as a group can support each other but we should also remember that they (fans, friends and family) have been the ones who have supported us in good times and in bad times so let’s get some energy from them.

“We need to remember that we have failed before and have risen again and we will do that one more time. We will have a great opportunity to do that against Barcelona on Thursday.”

The Chelsea attack were simply too hot for Arsenal to handle from the first whistle and Eidevall went on to highlight where his side’s failings occurred during the 90 minutes.

He said “In the first half, they created opportunities from structured open play because we were dropping too late and we were not able to press the player with the ball. In the second half, it was more down to losing the ball at very, very poor times and being exposed.

“What you have to give to Chelsea is that the players they have upfront, if they get time and space and run against you, they are world class. You can’t let Chelsea do that as many times as they did today and expect a good result.”

Arsenal’s UEFA Women’s Champions League group match against Barcelona at The Emirates Stadium kicks-off at 7pm on Thursday evening.
