Premier League side Arsenal will make an offer for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The Gunners are likely to be on the lookout for a new striker this summer after an injury to Gabriel Jesus earlier in the season gave them a scare.

Jesus suffered a knee injury playing for Brazil at the World Cup and missed over three months of the campaign after returning to north London.

He made his comeback earlier this month but the Gunners’ lack of depth was exposed with Eddie Nketiah having to play almost every game in Jesus’ absence.

There have already been numerous strikers linked with a potential move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer and now Denmark international Hoijlund can also be added to the list.

The 20-year-old signed for Serie A side Atalanta in the summer from Sturm Graz in a deal worth around €17m and the former Copenhagen youngster has hit the ground running.

After bagging nine goals in 18 matches for Sturm Graz last season, Hojlund has carried on scoring at Atalanta with seven goals in 23 Serie A matches with 14 of those appearances coming from the start.

He showed his credentials further over the past five days by scoring five goals in two matches for Denmark as they beat Finland 3-1 and lost 3-2 to Kazakhstan.

in recent weeks but now Italian website Calciomercato claim that Arsenal will ‘really offer over €50m’ for Hojlund in the summer.

They add that if Arsenal do make the offer then Atalanta president Antonio Percassi ‘will not be able to say no’.

Former Italy international Antonio Cassano has likened Hojlund to Manchester City and Norway star Haaland, who has scored 42 goals in 37 matches in all competitions this season.

Cassano said: “If you think about who he resembles, Haaland quickly comes to mind, but I like Hojlund and I don’t like Haaland.”

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini admits Hojlund has “very similar” attributes to Haaland.

“The characteristics are very similar, especially in accelerations,” Gasperini said. “He is a very fast player, he does the 100 metres in less than 11 seconds.

“For his height, he has a low centre of gravity and an incredible stride frequency.

“I’m convinced he will have a great career. Technically, he always shows different and better things.”
