Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard had a stunning goal controversially disallowed by VAR during the first half of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Leicester City.

Trossard rifled the ball into the top corner of the net from the edge of the box in the 26th minute of the match.

It was a wonderful strike by the former Brighton winger, who Arsenal spent £27 million on last month.

However, the goal was ruled out, to the surprise of many football fans on social media.

Why was Leandro Trossard’s goal vs Leicester disallowed?

There didn’t appear to be much wrong with Trossard’s goal on first viewing, but Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward’s reaction suggested he felt he’d been fouled in the build-up.

The incident was then reviewed on the pitch-side monitor by referee Craig Pawson and the goal was subsequently disallowed.

The Premier League confirmed via Twitter: “Leandro Trossard has the ball in the net for Arsenal, but after consulting the VAR, referee Craig Pawson has overturned the goal because of sustained holding from Ben White on Danny Ward in the build-up.”

The Match of the Day host and arguably Leicester’s most famous fan tweeted: “Arsenal have had a goal ruled out after a VAR intervention. As a Leicester fan, I feel relieved, but bemused by a decision that could not be described, under any circumstances, as a clear and obvious error.”
