Nwankwo Kanu was a special talent.

The Nigerian made the move to the Premier League in 1999 when he joined Arsenal in a £4 million move from Inter Milan.

Kanu wasn’t exactly prolific in his five-year stint at the club as he scored just 44 goals in 198 games.

But the rangy striker, who stood at 6 foot 6 inches tall, still managed to establish himself as a fan favourite with his impressive technical ability.

He didn’t score too many but some of the goals he managed to score were just magical.

And one of his best goals in a red shirt came back in the 1999/00 season, which was his most prolific for the Gunners.

On March 2, 2000, Arsenal smashed Deportivo 5-1 in their UEFA Cup match at Highbury.

Kanu made it 4-1 to his side in the 78th minute and he embarrassed Deportivo’s number one, Jacques Songo’o, in the process.

The Nigerian was sent through on goal and one vs one with Songo’o.

Kanu feigned to shoot and completely deceived the Cameroonian stopper, who took the bait and fell to the ground.

The Arsenal striker then had the easy task of converting the ball into the empty net. Watch the goal below…

Pure brilliance.

It’s just a reminder of what an incredible talent Kanu was.

The skill was so impressive that Arsene Wenger could only smile at his player’s wizardry. Andy Gray was also laughing his head off on commentary.

His strike from 22 years ago has gone viral again, with many reminiscing about his genius. View some reaction below…

Kanu went on to play for West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth before hanging up his boots in 2012.

He remains one of the best African players to have ever graced the Premier League.
