Arsenal vs Burnley Preview | Team News, Key Men & Predictions

Article image:Arsenal vs Burnley Preview | Team News, Key Men & Predictions

Arsenal kicked off their season with a tight 1-0 win away to Newcastle United. While the performance wasn’t great, Unai Emery will be happy just getting the result, considering how many key players were missing. Now they’ll start their home campaign against Burnley. The Gunners have beaten Burnley every time they have played them since the Clarets were promoted in 2014. They’ll hope to keep that streak alive and start the Premier League season with back to back wins for the first time since the 2009-2010 season.

Burnley got their season off to a fantastic start with a 3-0 home win against Southampton. After a disappointing 15th place finish last season, the Clarets will look to bounce back this season and get into the top half once again. To do that they’ll need to earn points against some of the better teams. They can start this weekend, as they look to beat Arsenal in the Premier League for the first time.

Team News

Arsenal are still dealing with some long term injuries to first-team members. Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding, Kieran Tierney and Konstantinos Mavropanos have all been ruled out, according to Arsenal.com. Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny will undergo late fitness tests and have their status determined later. Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac look like they will be available after security concerns forced them to miss the last match.

Burnley will be without their own first team members. Sean Dyche said in his pre-match press conference that Robbie Brady, Steven Defour and Danny Drinkwater will all miss out, while Charlie Taylor is back in contention for selection.

Key Players

Arsenal: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Aubameyang started his defence of the golden boot with the only goal in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Newcastle. The Gabon striker had a fantastic start to the season with four shots and a goal. Now he’ll look to extend that good start with against the stout Burnley defence. Aubameyang will look to find the spaces in Burnley’s set up and score a goal or two to give Arsenal the win they crave.

Burnley: Ashley Barnes

Barnes had a great opening day as well, as he scored a brace against Southampton. He likely won’t see much of the ball against Arsenal, but he’ll look to exploit Arsenal on the counter. While the Gunners kept a clean sheet last week, they have a very exploitable defence and could be a real opportunity for Barnes.

Prediction

Arsenal have been fantastic at home for years and Burnley have always struggled to beat the Gunners. This should be a standard win for Emery’s men.

Prediction: 3-1 Arsenal
